In this 3-hour hands-on workshop, Maggie Parr will lead artists to develop a new series of their work. Attendees will leave with a clear sense of why they’re creating, what they’re trying to say, and how to execute their ideas.
Why create a whole series? Because it tells a story that is unique to the artist. A single blue painting by Picasso is an interesting exercise; a collection of them becomes a recognizable period. A single drip painting by Jackson Pollock is an oddity; a series of them becomes a genre with its own label that influences everything that comes after it.
Finally, a series creates a specific and meaningful container that allows more freedom to wander. It enables artists to pursue the story they’ve begun until they’re satisfied with the ending.
A separate online workshop will be offered on Monday, June 30, for those who can’t attend in person.
